WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 11

AT SCHOLES STREET STUDIO

375 Lorimer St. Brooklyn, NY

Free Show. Doors at 7, Show at 8

Featuring multimedia artist Ben Folstein, with Paul Collins, aka Cimiotti

Part rock show, part immersive satirical cultist fantasy, this promises to be a magical night.

The Church of Magic is a fictitious benevolent cult headed by the (self described) polymathic iconoclast known to his followers as Ipsissimus Mark. The Church adheres strictly to the teachings of recently (spuriously) discovered texts in the the Lake Vorts region of Latvia. A Dr. MSL Matheson has translated these writings and published them as The Book of Abra. (Free copies available at www.hedonihilism.org) In the Book of Abra, we are taught that the universe is but one layer of lasagna on a tray in a rack of trays of lasagnas, which are used to power an ultra dimensional civilization, and that our rack of lasagna batteries is maintained by two ultra dimensional engineers by the names of Hedon and Nihol. It is their job to keep this machinery clean, i.e. free of living things. Such is the struggle of life. Meanwhile, we are taught, the best we can do is love each other and love ourselves, and above all, please calm down. This new religion is known as Hedonihilism.

The evening will include, but not be limited to Cathartic Mantra Chantalongs, attempts at

Astral Reception, grotesque-burlesque Cult Rituals, and music throughout featuring Alexander Sovronsky on Violin.

Cimiotti is the experimental music project of Paul Collins, a musician and label owner based in Queens, New York. Collins earned a BA in Moving Image Arts from the College of Santa Fe before moving to NYC to pursue music. He played as a multi-instrumentalist in the band Beirut (4AD) for 13 years, touring internationally and earning critical acclaim. Collins has also toured with The Antlers and served as a musical director for the great outsider artist Daniel Johnston.

In 2014, he founded Cimiotti Recordings, a record label that has served as a space for his own releases and releases by artists such as Raven Chacon, Heather Trost, and James Corrigan. Cimiotti's most recent release, The Sitter, is two long-form guitar drones recorded at the artist's home and Mastered by Jeremy Barnes.
